Ms. Sallee has been a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and Oklahoma Music Teachers Association (OMTA) since 1987. In 1988, she became nationally certified (NCTM).
Through her tenure, she has chaired local, district and state festivals and state performance
composition competitions. She also served as the state MTNA Foundation Chair and was responsible for starting an endowment fund for OMTA with the Oklahoma Communities Foundation. She later served on the OMTA Board as CFO Chair in addition to serving as president of the Central Oklahoma MTA for several years. Mary has served as president of the Norman Area MTA and was the state president of OMTA for two years. She presently serves as MTNA Director (2012-14), representing the South-Central Division. In 2007, the state association honored Mary by making her an MTNA Fellow, in appreciation for her leadership with OMTA.
As a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and Oklahoma Choral Directors from 2003-2010, Mary attended numerous state, division and national conventions. She has served as accompanist for various selection committees, recording sessions, honor choirs and reading sessions.
In 1996, Mary joined the Norman Sooner Rotary Club and has had perfect attendance ever since. She has served her club as pianist since 1998 and has served on the Board of Directors for two years in the capacity of Fellowship Chair and NEXUS Chair. As a previous Ambassadorial Scholar to Vienna, Austria, Mary has been featured as an entertainer and public speaker for several district conferences and special events. In 2004, she was featured in concert with former Miss America, Susan Powell at the District 5770 Conference held in Elk City.
Mary is a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow (+6), a member of the Bequest Society and a recipient of the Nancy Chess Community Service Award.
Norman Arts Council
Mary first joined the NAC in 2006 and first served on their board as an intern for the Leadership Norman program from 2005-06. She served on the board for three more years in the office of secretary.
Although she no longer serves on the board, she supports the community programs as a member.
Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Music Fraternity
While in graduate school at OU, Ms. Sallee served her college chapter as president and received the Ruby Sword of Honor for her leadership skills. Later, she became a founding member of the Norman Alumnae Chapter. In 1995, she helped organize the Nancy Neal Piano Scholarship and continued to chair the competition in Norman for many years.
In 2004, her one piano-four hands duet, Happy Birthday, SAI! was selected as a winning composition in the Centennial Composition Contest and was later featured at the SAI National Convention held in Ann Arbor, MI.
